BRIDFAS Hamburg, Young Arts Project, Water, waves and words

BRIDFAS Hamburg have been working with the International School in Othmarschen on a project to help improve literacy amongst the junior school children. Through the combination of imagery and text generated by the students on a comptition basis, the mural aims to communicate ideas about what reading means to those students and to provide an opportunity for them to reserach, select and create ideas of their own about the river Elbe that flows through Hamburg.  Text that flows through the waves, on ribbon banners inspire-tattoos pulled along by seagulls, and onto and around images of all things maritime, include poetry, statements and quotes.  The environment has been enhanced through color and an exciting compositon to welcome children into school each day, the text drawing them into deepen their contemplation of the written word.
